  • Escala Medical has received a €5.5M grant and equity investment from the European Innovation Council (EIC) in a significant boost for the company’s work in pelvic organ prolapse (POP) treatment.

FemTech News:

  • Mothers who eat apples and herbs during their early pregnancy could be protecting the brain health of their children and grandchildren, as per a new study. The discovery is part of a project that found a mother’s diet can affect not just her child’s brain but also those of her grandchildren.
  • A new artificial intelligence system could improve the quality of life of millions of women suffering from endometriosis. A new technology uses machine learning to analyse data from pelvic scans and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to identify endometriosis lesions.
  • A study has revealed a connection between maternal mental well-being, adverse childhood experiences, and their impact on the mental health of their children. The findings underscore the need for prioritizing mental health support, especially in areas with histories of societal oppression and elevated psychiatric morbidity rates. 
  • A university student has developed a menopause cooling device to help women manage hot flushes. The device, called the Zera Cooling Crescent, will be a portable, discreet and diverse wearable that could easily fit inside a handbag and allow women to use it on the go.
  • Only 25% of the semi-rural and rural population in India have access to modern healthcare within their localities. The accessibility index saw a major dip as one moved from urban to rural India, with only 10% of the rural respondents citing that they had access to healthcare within a 10 km radius.

  • The US fertility care platform Pinnacle Fertility has announced Oma Fertility’s clinics have joined its network. This addition will help to expand its geographic footprint and provide greater access to support and effective solutions to those struggling to conceive.

  • The Cabinet has approved the National Policy on Research & Development and Innovation in the Pharma-MedTech Sector and the Scheme for Promotion of Research and Innovation in Pharma-MedTech (PRIP).
  • The Union Cabinet, approved Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed on June 4, 2023 between Indian drug standard and control organisations and the Ministry of Health, Government of the Republic of Suriname for cooperation in the field of medical product regulation and recognition of Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP).
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the government is targeting to increase the number of Jan Aushadhi Kendras to 25,000 from the present number of 10,000 Kendras.
