Global Funding:

  • 7wireVentures, a venture capital firm, known for its commitment to fostering innovation in the healthcare sector, has recently raised a new investment vehicle – a $217M Growth & Opportunity Fund (GO Fund).
  • Pollin Fertility, a Canadian fertility clinic and technology firm, has announced a $20M Series A fundraising round, led by Osmington. 
  • Partum Health, a startup specializing in interdisciplinary pregnancy and postpartum support, has successfully raised $3.1M in seed funding led by True Weatlh Ventures.

FemTech News:

  • According to the National Institute of Health, approximately 10-15% of women of reproductive age have PCOS. The prevalence rate of PCOS is high among Indian women. It is most often diagnosed in women between the ages of 15-44, although it can affect women of any age.
  • Irish researchers have made a significant breakthrough in the safe treatment of gestational diabetes, a condition that affects one in 20 pregnancies in the UK. Research shows insulin use is effective but also associated with some challenges, such as low sugar in both mother and baby, excess weight gain for mothers, and higher C-section birth rates.
  • Researchers from the California Institute of Technology have developed a wearable sensor that could reliably monitor estradiol by detecting its presence in sweat. The sex hormone commonly known as oestrogen plays an important role in multiple aspects of women’s health and fertility.
  • Scientists have introduced a groundbreaking computer model that promises to revolutionise drug development by shedding light on how medications impact men and women differently, ultimately leading to safer and more effective drugs.
  • North East London set to reduce maternal health inequities with new app. People using maternity services in north east London will be encouraged to play a greater role in their care with the rollout of the digital tool, helping to reduce health inequalities.
  • Millions of women are turning to TikTok for health advice related to gynaecologic cancers, but the majority of that information is misleading or dramatically inaccurate, new research has shown. The study, has found that overall, the quality of the information being shared through TikTok was poor.
  • Even just three years ago, there were much fewer companies than today. Now there are about 1,800 global FemTech companies and around 2000 investors, but there is such a long way to go. If investors are disappointed with other sectors it’s a good time to explore FemTech.

  • Sirona won 5 gold awards at Afaqs, including categories such as Best Branded Content, Best Innovation in Digital, Outstanding Category Disruption.
  • PeeSafe organized an employee wellbeing program and partnered with Yes Madam – Salon.
  • Miyara is hosting an event to create awareness on Menopause on account of the Menopause Awareness Month, with the theme – Creating a safe space for menopause and related health conversations.
  • Plush joined forces with CSI Ewart Matic Hr Sec School, Chennai to educate and empower around 1500 students about menstrual health
  • Oxyto – India’s first holistic expert-led support platform, supporting pregnant and postpartum mothers has gone live, and has onboarded its early believers.

Global Companies:

  • The UK diagnostic imaging platform Scan.com is extending its services to offer mammograms for women aged 40 and above, ten years earlier than the NHS screening programme.
  • The US menopause telehealth company Winona has announced a new initiative to support menopausal women in the workplace.The corporate wellness programme Winona Corporate Wellness aims to assist businesses in fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for women approaching menopause within their organisations.

Drugs, Diagnostics, and Pharma:

  • Eli Lilly and Company and POINT Biopharma Global, Inc. announced a definitive agreement for Lilly to acquire POINT, a radiopharmaceutical company with a pipeline of clinical and preclinical-stage radioligand therapies in development for the treatment of cancer. 
  • Cipla Foundation in partnership with National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences (NIMHANS) has set up a first-of-its-kind neuro-palliative care unit in Bengaluru. This integrated unit has provided support to over 2,000 individuals with neurological conditions such as Alzheimer’s, Dementia, and Parkinson’s.

Government News:

  • The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has approved five laboratories in the country to test in vitro diagnostics medical devices (IVDMD) used in testing of sickle cell disease in the country.
  • The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended a new vaccine, R21/Matrix-M, for the prevention of malaria in children. The recommendation follows advice from the WHO: Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization (SAGE) and the Malaria Policy Advisory Group (MPAG) and was endorsed by the WHO Director-General following its regular biannual meeting held on 25-29 September.

Research, Insights, and Market Projections:

  • SciBase Holding AB (SciBase), a leading developer of augmented intelligence-based solutions for skin disorders, announced the publication of a collaborative scientific project with the Swiss Institute of Allergy and Asthma Research (SIAF) in Davos, Switzerland. The study is the first to use Nevisense to measure skin barrier function in human excised skin samples, demonstrating Nevisense as an effective laboratory research device.
  • Exposure to natural light may help treat and prevent type 2 diabetes, according to a small study. The research, presented at the annual meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) in Germany from October 2-6, carried out a range of metabolic tests on a group of people with type 2 diabetes when they were exposed to natural light and when they were exposed to artificial light and compared the results
