💰 Global Funding:
- Gemma Biotherapeutics, a Philadelphia, PA-based therapeutics company, closed a $34m seed funding. The round was co-led by Double Point Ventures, Bioluminescence Ventures and Earlybird Venture Capital, with additional backing from Savanne Life Sciences.
- Lindis Blood Care, a Hennigsdorf, Germany-based medical device company, raised an undisclosed amount in funding.The round was eldby Brandenburg Kapital. High-Tech Gründerfonds, existing and new private investors as well as the founders, Dr. Franzpeter Bracht and Dr. Horst Lindhofer, also participated.
- CarboCode, a Cantanhede, Portugal-based biotechnology company, raised 15m in Series C funding.The round was led by Iberis Capital.
- Waken Mouthcare, a London, UK-based oral care brand creating mouthcare products, raised £950M in Crowdfunding.
- PeproMene Bio, Inc (PMB), a clinical-stage biotech company, has announced a $11 million investment from the Institute for Follicular Lymphoma Innovation (IFLI) to support the clinical development of PMB-CT01 (BAFF-R CAR T-cell therapy) in patients with relapsed or refractory (r/r) follicular lymphoma.
- Basilea Pharmaceutica Ltd, Allschwil, a commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company committed to meeting the needs of patients with severe bacterial and fungal infections, announced that it has been awarded an additional USD 7.3 million from CARB-X (Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria Biopharmaceutical Accelerator), a global non-profit partnership dedicated to supporting the early development of antibacterial products.

- Female stroke victims are less likely than men to take drugs that could lower their odds of a second stroke. Women are 80% more likely to report that they don’t take cholesterol-lowering medications as prescribed, a new study shows.
- Very early-stage breast cancers are notoriously tough to spot via mammograms, but new technology might make detection easier.According to a new study published recently in the Journal of Biophotonics, Scottish researchers are combining AI with high-tech “laser analysis” to spot changes in circulating blood that could signal the earliest stages of breast tumors.
- That morning cup of coffee or afternoon spot of tea might be protecting you from cancer. A new evidence review says that coffee and tea consumption are linked to a lower risk of cancers of the mouth, throat, and head and neck, per the results published in the journal Cancer.
- New British research shows that too much of a good medication can be a bad thing. In the study, repeated doses of paracetamol, known as acetaminophen (brand name Tylenol) in the United States, raised the risk of gastrointestinal, cardiovascular and kidney complications among those over 65.
- Seniors with an infection can take antibiotics without fear of harming their brain health.Antibiotics don’t appear to increase the risk of cognitive decline or dementia in older adults, researchers report in the journal Neurology.
- Abortion pills are safe and effective, but some pain will be part of the process for most women.However, many women are surprised by exactly how much pain is involved in a medication abortion, a new study says. They’re frequently told that the pain is akin to period cramps, but for many that simply isn’t so.
- A new government-backed platform has been launched in the US to help close the gaps in women’s health research and patient outcomes.The U.S. The National Library of Medicine (NLM) and the Office of Research on Women’s Health (ORWH) have launched the Discover Women’s Health (DiscoverWHR) Resource which aims to close the gaps in women’s health research and care.
- Autism ranks among the top ten health problems for young people under 20. These numbers show how important it is to diagnose autism early in a child’s life, so they can receive therapy that will help them throughout their lifespan.
- Dancing appears to lift the spirits of people with Parkinson’s disease. Depression eased in Parkinson’s patients who took months of dance classes, a new study published recently in the Journal of Medical Internet Research shows.
- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the first prescription medication specifically for treating obstructive sleep apnea (OSA): the weight-loss drug Zepbound.
- Everyone needs to feel appreciated — but especially someone who’s caring for a spouse with dementia. A study published recently in the journal Comprehensive Psychoneuroendocrinology shows that the mental health of caregivers dramatically improves when they feel supported, understood and appreciated by the person they’re looking after.
- Coffee provides a quick morning boost, but it might also protect the brain health of people with a common heart rhythm disorder. A study published recently in the Journal of the American Heart Association shows patients with atrial fibrillation who drank more than five cups of coffee a day performed better on an array of cognitive tests than those who drank little to no coffee.
- Indian adults, over the age of 20, have seen a three to four per cent rise in heart diseases in rural areas and an eight to 10 per cent increase in urban areas, making it imperative that we pay greater attention to cardiac tests even when asymptomatic. A study published in the Indian Journal of Medical Research pointed out that even Indians who are living outside the country are more susceptible to heart diseases.
- The Karnataka government has firmed up plans to establish five new cancer hospitals across the state to enhance access to cancer treatment. This initiative is part of a broader effort to address the rising incidence of cancer and provide better healthcare infrastructure in underserved regions. The initiative aims to bring specialized cancer treatment closer to patients in rural and semi-urban areas, reducing the need to travel to major cities. Primarily it will reduce the need for patients to travel to Bengaluru for treatment.

- Mankind Pharma Limited, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in India, and Innovent Biologics, a leading biopharmaceutical company, have announced a groundbreaking partnership to exclusively license and commercialize sintilimab, an advanced PD-1 immunotherapy, in the Indian market
- Sanofi and SK bioscience have entered into a new chapter of their collaboration in pneumococcal vaccines with an expanded agreement to develop, license and commercialize next-generation PCVs for both pediatric and adult populations, reaffirming their commitment to fighting pneumococcal disease.
- Anavex Life Sciences Corporation, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing innovative treatments for Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia, neurodevelopmental, neurodegenerative, and rare diseases, including Rett syndrome, and other central nervous system disorders
- Aethlon Medical, Inc, a medical therapeutic company focused on developing products to treat cancer and life-threatening infectious diseases, has provided an updated statement of its investigational medical device with respect to H5N1 avian influenza “Bird Flu.”

- The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has released the revised calculation sheet for the ceiling price of antibiotic combination amoxicillin 1000 mg + clavulanic acid 200 mg power of injection following a review order from the Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP). The review order was issued on October 4, in favour of an application filed by Cipla Ltd.
- The Asia Pharma Expo 2025, which will be held between February 12 and14 2025 at the Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center (BCFEC), Dhaka Bangladesh, is all poised to highlight the remarkable collaborative potential of the Bangladesh pharmaceutical market with the Indian pharmaceutical market.
- Indian pharma is making giant strides in their mission to medication adherence, by looking at Patient-Centric Pharmaceutical Drug Product Design (PCPDPD) strategy. This focuses on creating medications that prioritize the needs and preferences of patients. It aims to improve medication adherence by considering factors such as packaging, dosing convenience, and user-friendly features.
